Company
Somebody had to
build this here.
bytblock is being built in Bucharest, by people who kept having the same conversation: a friend abroad wants a piece of a Romanian company, looks at what it takes, and quietly gives up. At some point that stops being a conversation and becomes a company.
The problem
The appetite was
never the missing part.
Romanians save. They just do not do it here, in the companies they use every day. Four numbers explain most of why.
hours a week the Bucharest exchange is open, out of 168. The other 129 are somebody else's market — and increasingly, somebody else's savings.
business days between selling a share and having money you can actually spend. Two days is not a technical limit any more. It is a habit.
share is the smallest thing a broker will sell you. When one share of a good company costs more than a week of groceries, the price of entry is the whole argument.
the year Romania was reclassified from frontier to emerging market. The market grew up. The way you reach it did not.
Session hours and settlement are the Bucharest Stock Exchange's published rules. The 2020 reclassification is FTSE Russell's. Everything else on this site is a demonstration.
What we believe
Six things we would
rather be judged on.
Not values on a wall. Positions that cost us something, which is the only kind worth writing down.
The wrapper is the barrier
Banca Transilvania is a fine company at nine in the morning and at three at night. Everything standing between you and a piece of it is packaging, and packaging can be rebuilt.
Boring answers beat clever ones
If the explanation of where your money is requires a diagram with a token in the middle of it, the answer is wrong. Custody should be describable in one sentence.
Publish the checks that fail
A reconciliation you only publish when it matches is marketing. Ours goes out either way, and a bad day stays on the record permanently.
Regulation is the moat
An offshore wrapper ships a year sooner and is worth exactly what its jurisdiction is worth. We would rather spend the year and be difficult to switch off.
You own the share, not a bet on it
Synthetic exposure is easier to build and pays better. It is also somebody else's promise. If the thing you hold is not the thing itself, we have not done our job.
Small enough to say we do not know
There are questions on this site we answer with a limitation rather than a claim. Losing that as we grow would be the most expensive thing that could happen to us.
Where we are
Earlier than you think.
Companies at this stage usually imply they are further along. Here is the actual position, with no dates attached — because a date we cannot control is a promise we cannot keep.
-
Now
A demonstration build
Everything on this site works and nothing on it is live. No instrument has been issued, no share is in custody, no card exists. What you are reading is the argument, built rather than pitched.
-
Next
The regulatory groundwork
Issuer structure, depositary agreement, safeguarding, and the authorisation the framework requires. This is the slow part, and skipping it is how the other kind of company gets built.
-
Then
A closed beta, in Romania
A small number of people, a handful of Bucharest blue chips, real money and a very short list of things that work. Everyone in it will know exactly what is unfinished.
-
After
Open, market by market
The rest of the exchange, then the card, then the countries where Romanians already live. In that order, and only when the one before it is boring.
Careers
We are not hiring
at volume.
A company this size that lists twenty openings is either lying or about to be. These are the seats that get filled first, and they get filled slowly.
- Protocol engineering Solana programs, the issuance and redemption path, and the reconciliation that has to agree with a depositary's register every hour without anyone watching it. Bucharest
- Compliance and regulatory Someone who has taken a file through a European supervisor before and is not romantic about how long it takes. MiCA and the DLT Pilot Regime, in practice rather than in theory. Bucharest
- Custody and security operations Key ceremonies, threshold signing, the runbook for the day something is wrong, and the discipline to rehearse it when nothing is. Bucharest
- Product design The person who will argue that a screen explaining settlement is a product problem and not a copy problem, and then go and fix it. Remote, EU
- Support, in Romanian and English Opens with the closed beta, not before. When it does, it is a job about explaining money to people who are right to be suspicious of it. Later
No form, no tracking system, no six-stage process. Write to jobs@bytblock.com with something you have built and one paragraph on why this one. You will hear back either way.
Contact
Four ways in.
All of them reach a person. None of them reach a ticket queue, because there are not enough of us yet for a queue to be honest.
Security
Responsible disclosure. Tell us before you tell anyone else and we will not send a lawyer.
Partnerships
Brokers, custodians, issuers and anyone who moves money for a living.
Come along early.
bytblock is a working demonstration. Join the list and we will bring you in market by market, starting with the Bucharest blue chips.
